Talk with Kerry Derbishire & Liz Nuttall
4pm – 5:30pm @ Dalton Community Centre, 21 Nelson Street, Dalton-in-Furness, Cumbria, LA15 8AF :: Ticketed event £5
Ever thought about writing your memoirs or those of a relative?
Then this talk could be just for you.
If you had a mother who was a relative of the great composer, Delius, a girlfriend of a Doctor Who and a West End star who gave up the high life to run a cafe and animal sanctuary in the Lakes, you may be tempted to write a memoir of her. Kerry Darbishire, a writer, songwriter and poet, did just that. ‘Kay’s Ark’, for which she gained a Hunter Davies Bursary in 2013, was published by Handstand Press in 2016. Kerry has won many prizes and her poems have appeared widely in magazines and anthologies. Her first poetry collection ‘A Lift of Wings’, was published by Indigo Dreams in 2014 and her second collection will be published in 2018.
Liz Nuttall ran the Tinners’ Rabbit Bookshop in Ulverston for nearly ten years before launching Handstand Press, a small publishing company specialising in books relating to Cumbria by Cumbrian writers. Handstand’s titles include works of poetry, children’s fiction, local history and memoirs, and its books have been nominated three times for the prestigious Lakeland Book of the Year award.
