We’ve just had some wonderful news. The Heritage Lottery Fund has agreed to pay for one of our major ideas for this year’s festival, the Daltonia project, which will combine research into some memorable events in the history of Dalton-in-Furness with community drama work. We can now look for a project manager for Daltonia and start the process. Feeling excited! ... See more

It's a quiet time for Litfest planning at the moment. We have writers and workshop leaders pencilled in and ideas aplenty. But the waiting for funding decisions means we can make no definite decisions. It's frustrating but they say patience is a virtue! ... See more

We are delighted to announce that there will be more speakers at this year’s Festival: seven writers have accepted already with more in the pipeline. Last year we had four themes and this year we are aiming for five; they are - Thrillers, Fantasy, Relationships, Food and War Memoirs. Once more we will have two writers per topic interviewed by a member of our team to highlight the different ways of approaching their work.

We also hope to secure one other writer to talk about her/his output. This one, if accepted, will be a “big name”. Exciting stuff.

All is dependent on funding, of course, so we cannot mention names until then … but keep watching this space.

We can now reveal that Litfest 2018 will [subject to funding] be even bigger and better than last year.

We are having more writers, more workshops, and bigger projects. Responding to suggestions in the feedback, we will include scriptwriting and drama, improve the bookshop and signage, and build partnerships with more organisations. We will also ensure we have a better record of our events with an official photographer.

One development we are particularly pleased about is that the wonderful “Poem and a Pint” team, usually based about four miles north [!] are coming to Dalton and running the Open Mic session for us.

Although most of the visiting writers will still be Cumbrian, we are inviting a few from further afield including … a BIG name! We can’t reveal names yet even though eight, yes eight, have already agreed to come. But watch this space in future weeks for more information.
